Introducing "BlueHUBS": LNG and CNG supply chains
"BlueHUBS" is an Action aiming to:
-
promote sustainable shipping,
-
facilitate the East Mediterranean in keeping up with other parts of Europe that have advanced towards making this sector compatible with international and European climate goals an
-
accelerate the adoption of LNG in the East Mediterranean, one of the busiest shipping routes.
As a result of the "BlueHUBS" Action, key ports will be upgraded so as to support cleaner and lower emission shipping, aligning with the EU’s goal for a sustainable transport system across the Union. Specifically, once completed BlueHUBS will have contributed to:
-
the construction of two (2) LNG bunkering vessels – one for Greece and one for Cyprus – the first ones for both countries and region,
-
the development, procurement and commissioning of one (1) Mobile LCNG station to service Crete (Heraklion), as well as two (2) for Cyprus (Limassol) about to serve bunkering LNG fuelled ships and LNG/CNG refueling for port heavy duty vehicles and buses,
-
the procurement of a fleet of eight (8) LNG Tanker Trucks with bunkering equipment – five (5) for Crete (Heraklion) and three (3) for Cyprus (Limassol).
